What's a Nomination Committee and what does it do?
Every year a Nomination Committee is formed of a minimum of 5 JAMS PTSA Members, 2 alternates and our Principal. This Nomination Committee is usually formed at the November PTSA meeting. Over the months until the PTSA spring election the committee reaches out to our community to create a slate of people interested in filling the next academic year's Executive Board positions. This committee reviews our PTSA rules, bylaws and commitment to inclusion of our entire community.
What IS a PTSA Executive Board and why are they elected?
A PTSA is made up of an Association, anyone can join JAMS PTSA! An Executive Board is an elected board of PTSA members who are voted or appointed for specific volunteer duties.
From December to February, a nomination committee of JAMS PTSA members prepares a slate of volunteers to be shared with the community in March of every year. An April election meeting is held for the JAMS PTSA Association where the community votes on the Executive Board members for the next academic/fiscal year, that starts on July 1.
Executive Board members work on the operational side of the PTSA. They must have required positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer. They follow financial guidelines while completing banking and tax duties. They also submit reports, and create all proposals to be presented or voted on by the General Association.
JAMS PTSA has Association meetings the second Thursday of every month for all PTSA members to review everything from school news to Treasurer Reports, and give input on events or spending decisions.
JAMS PTSA Executive Board members attend an additional Executive Board meeting before the Association Meeting every month.
Our JAMS PTSA Nomination Committee will be formed at our November 14th PTSA Meeting.
